Many employers call "Mediocre people" as the quiet anchors around a company's neck!" They are the ones you need to constantly motivate, does just enough to get by, slows down when you are out of the office and rarely show up early to work. Does that sound like anyone you manage? They can hurt a company since they rarely have a large positive impact.  They seem to have a different standard for excellence. As Joseph Joubert, a French moralist, observed, 
   

Mediocrity is excellent to the eyes of mediocre people.” 

On the other hand, the highest qualified people, sometime
s referred to as the "twenty-percenters," are the highly motivated and talented people who are in the top 20%.  They are responsible for 80% of the success of a business. These are the ones who carry more than their share, stay longer, do more, cut through the red tape, see the opportunities, bind the company together, need less supervision...in short, they are the heart and soul of every successful business.

Unfortunately the mid-size company to start-up ventures have an increasingly difficult time attracting and hiring the "twenty-percenters", particularly when the nationally recognized competitors are "in the picture."

However, many of the "twenty-percenters" who work for the nationally recognized companies, are becoming increasingly frustrated with their company and career.  They are bright dedicated people who work hard but do not feel they make a large enough impact on their company to satisfy them.  Many times they are "siloed," their company is unwilling to change or change takes too long to occur.  They are motivated and driven by making LARGE POSITIVE IMPACTS on a company!  There are some who feel they are at a crossroad in their life and want to be a "bigger fish in a smaller pond".

What today's successful companies had all recognized when first starting out, this has always presented an incredible opportunity for the smaller company to make exciting quantum leaps in competing for higher market-shares, higher profits, lower expenses...and much smother running, headache-free company!
